On the International Girl's Day, over 140 representatives from the Parliament, civil society and girls' organizations discuss their participation in politics and decision-making

Tirana, October 12, 2018 - On the International Girl's Day, in the framework of the Global Campaign #Girl2Leader, the Albanian Parliament welcomed 25 girls, 15 women ambassadors and over 140 representatives of girls' organizations, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Members of the Parliament, representatives of the civil society organisations and the diplomatic corps, at the Girl's Summit, that was held for the first time in Albania.

The Summit was organized thanks to the close co-operation of the MP's Women Alliance, the Coalition for Education in Albania (ACE), the Albanian National Youth Network (ANYN), the Child Rights Centre in Albania (CRCA) and the Tirana Youth Parliament.

The Summit’s Ambassadors welcomed 25 young girls aged from 15-21 and encouraged them to consider their participation in decision-making. They shared their inspirational stories with girls and all the guests, as well as their experiences in the field of politics, academia, journalism, or even the education. The event was also joined by the Albanian Ombudsman, The Vice/Ministers of Education and Health, the Chairperson of the State Child Protection Agency and the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination.

The 1st Girl’s Summit in Albania was also in a live feed with the members of the European Parliament, who welcomed the girls in the global campaign #Girl2Leader.  The 25 girls who will benefit from of the Summit will be mentored by their ambassadors, by gaining work experience, strengthen their capacities and learn key issues in decision-making, etc.

A strong support for the Summit was also the social media. Throughout the campaign and during the day of the Summit posts with hashtag #girl2Leader and #girl2leaderAL were shared on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
